What is StateTap?
StateTap is a daily trivia game where the answers are always US states. Each day brings one new question. Tap the states you think are correct on the map before you run out of mistakes.
How many mistakes am I allowed?
Four. Tap a state that isn't part of the answer and you lose one. Run out and the game ends, revealing whichever answers you didn't find.
Does StateTap track how fast I finish?
Yes. The clock stays hidden while you play so you're never rushed, and your total time shows up once you're done and in your shared results. The clock keeps running if you close the tab and come back later, so play in one sitting if you're going for a fast time.
Why are some states grayed out?
Some questions take a few states out of play because the answer for them would be debatable. Those are grayed out from the start so you never waste a guess on them.
Is Washington, D.C. on the board?
Yes. DC is in the "Small states" row under the map, because a few questions are about places that aren't states. It's only ever an answer when the question says so.
When does a new StateTap game appear?
A new question appears every day at midnight Eastern time.
Do I need an account to play?
Nope. StateTap is anonymous. Your progress is saved in your browser, so you can close the tab mid-game and pick up where you left off.
Can I share my results?
Yes. When you finish, hit "Share Results" to send your score to friends.
